Spectra S2PLUS Breast Pump Now Available at Chambers’ Apothecary

At Chambers’ Apothecary, we take pride in providing all of your medical equipment needs. One in-demand item we’ve had requests for was the Spectra S2Plus Breast Pump.

Let’s talk about the pump features and why it has become one of the leading brands for nursing moms.

The S2Plus was designed to have the quietest motor available, which in the “massage mode” mimics the natural suckling of a baby. It can also be used in single or double pump mode. The pump also includes “backflow protectors” to ensure your milk doesn’t come into contact with any bacteria. It also features “adjustable suction levels” for a more natural flow of milk.

The pump is light, weighing in at only 2.5 pounds, making it easy to move from room to room. This is especially nice when you are on the go or using your pump at work.

The S2PLUS comes with 24mm and 28mm flanges for the perfect fit and comfort. It also includes wide neck bottles, caps and rings for easy milk storage. The last unique feature we will talk about is the built in nightlight. That’s right…you’re middle of the night pump breaks just got a whole lot easier!

Spectra also has an upgraded version of this pump, the S1. The biggest difference between these two pumps is that the S1 has a battery pack and recharges quickly for busy moms on the go. This version is available with an upgrade fee.

We are contracted with most insurance companies and we are happy to help navigate your benefits. Please call or stop in to speak with one of our DME Specialists!

iMedicare is Back!

iMedicare is back and just in time for the 2019 year! If you aren’t familiar with this FREE service, it’s something that Chambers’ Apothecary offers each year to help our senior patients nagivate the variety of Part D (prescription drug) plans out there to ensure they are choosing the right one to fit their needs and budget.

In most cases, you can make changes to your Medicare Part D plan each year during the fall open enrollment period, which takes place from October 15 to December 7. Additionally, plans do change on a yearly basis, so it’s important to verify if your current plan will remain the same. In a situation where changes take place that may no longer benefit you, shopping around for another plan is an option, and we’re here to help!

Nancy Mazariegos, our iMedicare specialist, has offered this program at Chambers’ since 2014. “For the past 4 years we’ve been saving our patients money by finding the best plan that meets their financial needs while maintaining all the services they’ve come to love and appreciate.”

So how does it all work? All you have to do is spare about 30 to 45 minutes for you appointment. Nancy will pull up your information and the available plans so you can compare and contrast what is available, what has changed, and what you should choose moving forward.

Call today (717) 263-0747 to make an appointment with Nancy. Deadline to choose a plan for the 2019 year is December 7.

Our New TapLive-Enabled Shelving Gives Customers the Information They Need

So far we’ve looked at our new Durable Medical Equipment counter, our new Sterile Compounding Lab and Chambers’ Wellness Center, which are all projects that we began in 2017 that will continue to be expanded upon throughout 2018. These investments all expand our services in valuable ways and allow us to continue exceeding our customers’ expectations.

However, the next innovation that we want to take a closer look at allows customers to interact with the products in our retail area in a fundamentally new way.

Robert Norris, PharmD, explains some of the capabilities of TapLive-enabled shelving within Chambers’ Apothecary.

TapLive-enabled Interactive Shelves

  • What’s New?

Many of our customers may have noticed the new stickers on the shelves in the retail portion of our pharmacy. These stickers are actually interactive tags that provide an innovative way to learn more about the products in our store. By simply tapping your NFC-enabled smartphone to the tags, customers can access information and watch helpful videos to ensure they get the most out of their purchases. It’s likely that this is the largest deployment of the technology in a store setting in the U.S.

  • What Should I Expect?

Expect to continue getting excellent customer service from our staff. The shelf tags are an additional way to get the information they need, not a replacement for pharmacist-patient interaction. It’s just another way for us to meet and exceed our customer’s expectations. At Chambers’ Apothecary we’ve always relied on a balance of holistic strategies and modern technologies regarding health and wellness, and now, by tapping your smartphone to a tag, it’s like Dr. Axe is in the pharmacy sharing recipes with you or discussing the benefits of Bone Broth.

  • What Does the Future Hold?

This is still pretty new for us, so we’re going to be pushing its boundaries a little bit in 2018 and exploring how it can be best used to help our customers. It’s fun to use, just tap and it opens up on your phone, but its purpose is to help people get the information they need. It can also be used to easily transmit checklists such as a list of bathroom safety items that are available in our Durable Medical Equipment area. We might also incorporate discounts and other incentives, so when you tap a certain tag at the right time, you can get a discount on that product.

Chambers’ Wellness Center: What’s New and What You Can Look Forward To

We’ve written about our Wellness Center before, but we are still very excited about it. It was a major project that we started in 2017, and we will continue to add services and offerings throughout 2018.

Be sure to follow Chambers’ Wellness Center on Facebook to stay up-to-date with our Guided Meditations and Yoga in the Cave sessions.

Randi Weist discusses how Chambers’ Wellness Center is a natural expansion of Chambers’ Apothecary’s service offerings and some of the new events that we’ll be unveiling in the future.

Chambers’ Wellness Center

  • What’s New?

Chambers’ Wellness Center formally opened in October, and it is located on the second floor of the Chambers’ Apothecary. We offer a variety of holistic wellness therapies to promote optimal health while helping you achieve your goals. We are already becoming famous in the Chambersburg area for our Himalayan Salt Cave as well as our Infrared Sauna, Ionic Foot Baths, and Massage Therapies, which you can learn more about here. Also, in 2017, I checked off one of my own long-term goals by achieving my Doctorate of Naturopathy, which expands the nutritional support, educational services and consultations that I can provide in our brand-new facility.

  • What Should I Expect?

During your visit to Chambers’ Wellness Center, our Wellness Support Specialists will treat you as well as you should be treating yourself every day. We maintain a clean and serene environment from when you’re greeted at the reception desk throughout your entire visit. We offer packages that are contoured to our customer’s needs so you can stop in for a single session or spend a day recharging and investing in your wellness.

  • What Does the Future Hold?

At the very end of 2017, and even more so now, we began introducing scheduled, themed events in our Himalayan Salt Cave. So far we’ve done a few sessions of Yoga in the Cave, which combines the relaxing effects of yoga with the soothing environment of the cave, and we’ve done a series of Guided Meditations. These have been very successful, so in 2018 we’ll probably continue to roll-out different events that will be announced through our Facebook page. And, of course, we always encourage people to host their own events here like bridal showers, business meetings or other unique ideas.

Our NEW Sterile Compounding Lab

In addition to our new Durable Medical Equipment counter, we have been hard at work converting our lower level into a full-service Sterile Compounding Lab. Like the DME counter, the Sterile Compounding Lab is an investment in ourselves that we started in 2017 and will continue to develop throughout 2018 so we can continue to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Compounding allows pharmacists to adjust the dosage strength, route of administration and even the flavor of medicines. Compounding has a wide range of applications including chronic pain management, hospice, pediatrics, bio-identical hormones, dental, dermatology, podiatry and veterinary services.

Chambers’ Apothecary pharmacist Richard Collier gave us a preview of the Sterile Compounding Lab’s capabilities, and he explained how it will expand our already extensive Compounding services.

Our New Sterile Compounding Lab

  • What’s New?

In July, we began a process of converting the lower level of Chambers’ Apothecary into a full-service Sterile Compounding Lab. Basically, everything down there is new – new walls, new plexiglass, new lighting, new wiring, a new HVAC system, new carpet, desks, shelves, and even the chairs are new. It has required a lot of time and effort, but it will allow us to offer more services to our customers, so the hard work will definitely be worth it.

  • What Should I Expect?

We currently offer a wide range of compounding services, primarily for custom dosages, pediatrics and veterinary patients, but even with our current offerings, compounding offers endless options. In our upstairs compounding lab, we can develop topical pain creams and muscle relaxers to provide an alternative to some of the heavy-duty pain medications. We can create suspensions and creams for people who have difficulty swallowing. For kids who won’t take their medicine, we have popsicles. For pets, we can create topical gels to rub in their ears or we can create medicines that are tuna or chicken flavored. We will find a way to do whatever is best for the patient. Patients don’t always know what is available, let alone how to ask for it, so sometimes we can help them communicate their needs to their doctors.

  • What Does the Future Hold?

Once we’re fully operational down here – hopefully sometime in March – we’ll be able to expand our compounding solutions to include injectables, eye drops, nebulized medications and nasal sprays in addition to our topicals and consumables. In 2018, it will be possible for a patient to bring a prescription to the pharmacy counter that is then delivered to the compounding lab to be converted to a form that can be used in a nebulizer that is provided by our Durable Medical Equipment team – and have it delivered right to their door. The expansion will also free up space behind the upstairs pharmacy counter while expanding our patient offerings and giving us more storage overall. We’ll provide more information about how everything works down here as we get closer to completion.
